A quick pass behind Monona Terrace before the ride revealed some concrete highway dividers set up at the edge of the grounds.
There were about a dozen police officers along the path behind the terrace, then another set of concrete barriers.
Shot of the gathering group from the sky-bridge over West Washington.
A Closer view.
The four officers assigned bike patrol during our ride arrive.
One officer was filming the ride today! Perhaps I can get some stills from her camera!!
One of the spokespeople for Creative People's Resistance as she was being interviewed by John Hamiltom.
The mass heads off!
The ambience of the ride was augmented by some on-street percussion.
Heading up West Wash.
More West Wash.
Just before we turned onto John-"No Lane".
As you can see 3 or four squad cars were also assigned to monitor the ride.
Looks like the Police are anticipating the group trying to ride behind Monona Terrace.
But that's no fun. A good ride through the tunnel is much more exciting!
The large group made plenty of noise.
One of the high points of the ride was when the whole group was in the tunnel.
Again, the on-street percussion added to the moment.
Leaving the tunnel.
Police were waiting on the other side to make sure we didn't try any monkey business.
As you can see, there was a nice healthy turnout, which covered a good stretch of Atwood Avenue.
One of the entrances to Olbirch Gardens was closed off. The Mayors Conference was having an event at the gardens. Note the lack of state troopers behind the squad car.
Bike stand at the gardens. Lots of cheering too...
The "invitees" seemed to be curious.
Can you tell which of these gentleman is a mayor and which is the officer assign to protect him?
The MPD Videographer didn't seem to be too interested in what the Mayors were doing.
The group departed for the Capitol, and on our way out, we noticed a rank of state troopers at that other entrance.
Dammit, these "violent anarchists" just weren't being violent! What is wrong with the world?
One officer asked me about two blocks before the intersection which way we would turn. He seemed stunned that I didn't know. Officers tried to keep the bicyclists from entering East Washington at the intersection, but failed...
The group makes a U-Turn and heads toward the Capitol.
"Wow, check out the leg muscles on that guy!"
Moving along East Wash.
The Police kept directing bicyclists to stay in one lane, even though the squad cars were blocking the next lane of traffic themselves.
Going up the hill just before Capitol Square.
As we passed by, people chanted "Whose Capitol? Our Capitol".
Just about to the protest stage.
Bike Stand in front of the stage.
