One officer spoke before the ride about the possibility of cameras being used to film the ride in the event things got out of control like they started to at the last ride.
A shot of the Police assigned to monitor the ride.
A Candidate for Sheriff (left) talks to one of the bicyclists.
The Mass Heads off on another adventure.
Rounding the corner from West Wash to Park St.
Our only rollerblading participant felt a little lonely - anyone else want to join him on the next ride?
The Police encouraged us to keep to one lane as we headed down Park St.
There's nothing like a U-Turn to keep everyone wondering where we are headed...
Where are you?
Still on Park, just north of West Wash.
A brief jaunt up regent.
And a left turn on University Drive.
... which turns into campus drive.
Martin talked about the motorist that got trapped in the Mass on this stretch of road last June. Note the people observing the Mass from their motor-vehicle.
One Motorist honked at the mass - it may have been this cell-phone wielding woman. If it was, which hand do you think she used to hit the horn?
After a left turn off of Campus Drive.
The Police directed the Mass to keep right to allow this one motorist to get by.
Ah ha! Somebody wanted the group to pass by Whole Foods, in support of the worker's unionizing efforts there!
I asked this officer (Theresa) what traffic laws apply in parking lots.
The Police seemed to be putting in extra effort to be friendly toward the participants on this ride.
I also think some of the officers have been enjoying monitoring the rides.
After gazing at this image a while, I began to notice that Theresa's helmet is not secured properly.
A properly tightened chin-strap should not be dangling against the wearer's thoat like it does in this photo.
Two of the officers on bikes were wearing their helments properly and two were not.
You can never tell when your life might depend on wearing your helmet properly.
The participants discuss where the ride should go next.
One of the cyclists that was cited during the Earth-Day ride.
He told me that during his negotiations he accepted an offer to plead guilty to the red-light running in exchange for the failing to ride on the right charge being dropped.
The mass enjoys a long downhill run.
Suddenly, a call comes over this officer's radio. Theresa, one of the other officers riding with the group, has fallen down...
The group decides to ride back to the scene of the accident in a show of support.
The accident scene. Theresa was conscious and able to speak, but she thought her neck might have been hurt by the fall.
An ambulance was called in. I have heard no further news on her condition.
The Police directed the cyclists to leave the scene, so the group decided to head back to the Capitol.
Yet another run under the Tunnel on John Nolan. Martin flails his arms gleefully upon entering the tunnel.
The group thinned out by the time we got to the tunnel. Here's the rest of the pack.
Note our lone rollerblader made it through the entire ride.
Also note the gentleman in the red convertible at the right asked what we were doing, and rode with us for a block or so!
