Four shots of the Bicyclists deciding where to go...
We finally decided to head out to the airport, along a route that took us past the Governor's Mansion and up North Sherman Avenue
Rounding Capitol Loop
Down Hamilton
Along Sherman next to Tenney Park
Looking back, it appears a few cars were in back of the group. Motorists seem to take the delay in stride.
We entered The Village of Maple Bluff, home to the Governor.
We found quite streets.
A and one Police officer who did not pay much attention to us.
Passing by the Governor's Mansion.  The day before, Governor McCallum refused to veto a forced highway expansion outside of Milwuakee .  The expansion was opposed by the City of Milwaukee.
I found out later that this was Geoff's last ride.  He's moving to Ann Arbor Michigan.  Good luck Geoff!
Rounding a corner after a bit of a climb.
The group spread out a bit during the following downhill stretch.
Kevin was back in town, lugging a 12 pound scram! bag he said he had been carrying for over 75 miles that day.
After some meandering, we turned onto North Sherman Avenue.  Many local bicyclists complain about the lack of bike lanes on this busy, but convenient street.  The alder of this district feels that putting in bike lanes would end up creating traffic jams because a car lane would have to be removed.
On packers Avenue, we passed by a motorcycle ride heading in the opposite direction.  We waved at each other.
Getting ready to move into the left lane for a turn toward the airport..
The sign on the left reads: "Inspired by Orville, Wilbur and Frank Lloyd".  Guess what business the Wright brothers were in when they undertook the task of creating their airplane?  They ran a bicycle shop!  Yet another example of how the bicycle has played a part in another form of transportation!
Finally, the airport came into view...
Note the turn to the left.  Bicyclists can park for free at the airport.  Simply follow the signs to short term parking, ride past the car gate on the right (there's a marked bike lane)  The bike racks are just inside on the right!
We found the traffic at the airport to be fairly light.
... and no sign of the national guard rushing out to protect the airport from bicyclists.
Several people waved as we passed by!
Jay Ferm joined us on the ride.  Jay has been involved in several city meetings including a discussion group on implementing a car-sharing program in Madison.  Jay also participated in the patrols of the Isthmus bike path last year after a string of muggings made the news.
Bicyclists got a lot spread out after a long downhill on Packers Avenue.
Martin getting ready to "peel away" from the ride and head home as we cross the Yahara on Gorham.
 Gorham Street
Bicyclists climbing one of the hills up Gorham..
The Capitol Building shortly after the ride concluded..
